How to Whisper on Twitch? Here’s How You Can Send a Private Message

BY Sourav

Twitch is one of the most popular video streaming platforms that was launched in 2007. It mainly focuses on live video game streaming along with broadcasts of esports competitions. It also offers creative content, music broadcasts, and “in real life” streams.

Apart from this, Twitch now allows sending a private message to someone without knowing other watchers. This is called the Whisper feature. It provides a private chat room where you can discuss topics that may not be convenient for everyone.

In this guide, we’ll discuss how to whisper on Twitch along with other important information.

How to Whisper on Twitch on Desktop?

There are multiple ways to begin a whisper conversation with another Twitch user. You can perform the first method via the chatbox of your channel.

Method 1: Type /w @username

  1. First, launch on your desktop.
  2. Now load up your preferred channel stream to start a whisper conversation. Make sure that the person is online to get a quick reply.
  3. Type /w @username in the chat window followed by your preferable message to whisper.
  4. Click on Whisper to send the message and start your private chat.

After using this feature a few times, Twitch will start to autocomplete the name of the last 5 users you’ve already whispered with or received a whisper from during that specific chat session. You can either click on the username to choose it or type the username manually.

Method 2: Utilize the Whisper Button

You’ll find the whisper button at the top right corner of your screen. It appears on the left side of your profile icon. Once you click on this button, it will bring up all your previously received and sent whispers. You can type the name of the Twitch user to find the person you want to whisper to.

Alternatively, you can use the scroll bar to find the specific username and click on it to whisper with that person. It will bring up all the whisper history you’ve exchanged with that person.

Method 3: Use Chat Name Button

Another way to whisper with someone is to click on their name displayed in the Chat room. It will include a short summary of their profile and a whisper button. Clicking on that button opens up a whisper chat box that will display your whisper history with that specific person. Now, you can just type your message and press enter to send the whisper.

How to Whisper on Twitch Using a Mobile?

In order to send a private message to someone by using the Twitch mobile app, try the following:

Method 1: Click Their Username

Whispering to someone using the Twitch mobile app is almost similar to the desktop process. If you want to whisper to a person who is presently active on the same channel as you, click their username.

Once you click the username, you’ll see various options. Select ‘whisper’ among them which will bring up a chat box with all the previous conversations between the two of you if there are any. Now, enter your message on the chatbox and tap on send.

Method 2: Whisper Social Icon

Another way to send a private message by using Twitch mobile app is to tap on the whisper or social icon from the top right corner of your mobile icon. After that, you’ll see the list of your Twitch friends and there you will find a button to switch to the whispers tab. Here you’ll find all your previous whispers along with a ‘Start a whisper’ button.

You can tap on that ‘Start a whisper’ button and enter the username of the person you want to send a private message to. Also, you can scroll down to find the person if you’ve previously exchanged conversations with them.

These methods will work on both Android and iOS devices.
