Suspicious Login Attempt on Instagram – Here’s How to Fix it

BY Sourav

Are you receiving a warning regarding a Suspicious Login Attempt from Instagram? Whenever Instagram detects logging in from a different device, location, or IP address, it sends the following notification.

“We detected an unusual login attempt. To secure your account, you need to request help logging in.”

Though Instagram does it for security reasons, it’s annoying as the app won’t let you access your own account. In the following article, we’ll explain the reasons behind the warning, how to fix it, and stop it from appearing again.

Why Does Instagram Notify Suspicious Login Attempt?

Instagram notifies Suspicious Login Attempt because someone else might be trying to log into your account using a different device or location.

But if the login attempt on Instagram is from you, the error can be a glitch.

The warning shows up only to inform you of any unusual login attempt in case someone tries to hack your account.

Even if you try to log in from another location or device, Instagram warns you with this message. So, you can take the necessary steps to secure the account.

How to Fix Instagram Suspicious Login Attempt

In order to fix Instagram suspicious login attempt, you can either reset your account password or try logging in using the Incognito mode on the desktop.

Let’s check out the following solutions to fix the suspicious login attempt error on Instagram.

1. Reset Instagram Password

If Instagram says Suspicious Login Attempt when you’re trying to log in, reset your password to fix the issue.

Here’s how to change your Instagram account password:

  1. Open your Instagram login page.
  2. Select the “Forgot password?” option.
  3. Enter your username, email or phone number and press Send Login Link.
  4. Instagram will send you a link by which you can reset the password.
  5. Once you’re done, log into the account with the new password.

If you’re using the Instagram mobile app, just open the app and tap on Get help logging in> Type username, email, or phone number and tap Next. After that select either Send an email or Send an SMS option to get the reset password link.

2. Try Logging In using Incognito Mode on PC

Another quick way to solve the suspicious login attempt issue is to log into Instagram on a PC browser using Incognito mode and change the password there.

  1. Follow the step-by-step process below:
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+N and open Incognito in your browser using a desktop or laptop.
  3. Visit the Instagram website and log into the account.
  4. Next, change your password. Click the profile icon at the top-right and select Settings> Change Password.
  5. Now, log into your Instagram from the mobile app using the new password.

Since Incognito hides or disables your browsing history, cache, cookies, site data, and toolbars, Instagram can’t track your IP address or device. Hence, using this mode to log into Instagram can fix suspicious login attempts.

  2. Next, log in to Instagram using the mobile app.
  3. Before you choose “send code to my PC/mobile”, click on Yes, it’s me on the browser.
  4. Click send code to PC. It’ll redirect you to the login page on your mobile.
  5. Now, select send code to PC and enter the login verification code.

Once it’s verified, you can successfully log in to Instagram.

The Suspicious Login Attempt is a technical glitch by Instagram that you can solve by logging into the account using a desktop.

4. Set Up Security Verification

If Instagram suspects someone else is trying to access your account from a different device or IP address, it confirms by sending a security verification message.

If it was you who tried to log into the account, tap the This was me option and you can instantly access the account.

But if it wasn’t you, select This wasn’t me. Instagram then recommends you change the password to secure the account.

5: Update the Instagram App
