Flashlight Not Working on Android : Why & How to Fix?

Is your flashlight not working on Android? Don’t worry, as it might not be a hardware problem. Normally, a phone flashlight is made of very strong components. Therefore, it won’t face any hardware issues until you hit it with a brick or hammer.

The flashlights on Android devices can stop working multiple times, and it’s nothing but a software error. 

Since various software issues can stop the flashlight from working, there are many ways to fix the problem. Here we’ve listed a few possible solutions to fix your flashlight on Android. 

1. Restart your phone

The first thing you can try is to restart your smartphone to solve the problem. Most of the time, it works well to fix any kind of small or large problem. Hence, simply restart your phone by pressing the power button until you see the restart or reboot option. Then, tap on the restart and check if the problem is fixed. 

2. Clear Camera app data

If your mobile flashlight stop working while shooting videos or taking pictures, clear the camera app data to eliminate the problem. To do so, 

  • Open Settings on your phone.
  • Tap Apps/Apps & notifications> Camera.
  • Tap Storage> Clear data

It’ll reset your camera app and might fix the Android flashlight isn’t working issue. 

Note: keep in mind that it will reset all your camera app settings, and you will need to organize them again according to your choice.   

3. Turn on safe mode

Android has a safe mode feature like other operating systems that restrict third-party apps from snooping on the phone procedures. If your flashlight is not working due to a specific application, it will work in safe mode. 

Here’s how to turn on safe mode,

  • Press and hold the power button for a few seconds.
  • Tap and hold the Power off option until you get Reboot to Safe Mode.
  • Tap Ok.
  • It’ll restart your phone on safe mode. 

Once you enter safe mode, turn the flashlight on from both your phone camera and the notification bar. If it works on safe mode, some installed apps must be causing the problem. Therefore, follow the next method. 

4. Uninstall recently installed apps

Sometimes applications that you’ve permitted to use your phone camera can be infected with malware which can stop the flashlight from working. In such a case, uninstall all the recently installed apps gradually to find out the culprit. 

5. Reset your App preference

Probably you’ve adjusted app preferences incorrectly, preventing the flashlight from working. It includes app permissions, disabled apps, default apps, and much more. So, reset the app preferences by using the following steps. 

  • Open Settings.
  • Tap on Apps/Apps & notifications.
  • Now tap the three dots menu located at the top-right side
  • Tap on Reset app preferences
  • Tap Reset apps to confirm the process. 

Note: If you’ve disabled unrequired apps from your device and have custom app permissions, then all your settings will get reset. You need to adjust your preferences after the reset process. 

6. Use a third-party app

You can use a third-party flashlight app if the flashlight on your phone isn’t working. There are lots of apps available in the Play Store or App Store. Select one of them according to your preference and install it on your device. 

7. Update the software

An outdated version of Android often hinders the progress of some applications. Hence, if you haven’t updated your phone software for a long time, update it immediately. This should fix the flashlight not working problem. 

8. Perform Factory Reset

If nothing works for you, try to perform a factory reset of your phone. It will reset all your preferences, clear all the data, and make your phone like a new one. 

Ensure to store important data in a different storage device before resetting your phone. Here’s how to do it,

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap on General & Backup> Reset.
  • Tap on Factory data reset> Reset device.
  • Now, tap on Delete all.

It will take 5-10 minutes to reset your phone. After restarting the phone, you’ll need to set up all your preferences again.
